To start with, I will search on the net some academic piece of writing to show which are some of the most common academic expressions used in this type of texts. To give some clue, I will say that this academic text have some principal and essential characteristics in order to have wht they want to have: an academic style. They, of course, must be impersonal, objective and have a clear and concise style. The register used in this text must be considerable high, if we want to success in academic writing. Moreover, it is highly advisable to use a cautious language. Therefore, here it is the chosen text:

The origin of tennis may be connected to the 12th century game called jeu de paume (“game of the palm”) that came from northern France (Gillmeister, Heiner). It was popularized by Louis X of France, and he was the first person to build indoor tennis courts (Newman, Paul B.). His design for indoor courts gradually spread across (high register) Europe. In the first historical record of tennis, in June of 1316, Louis was playing a tennis game and drank a large quantity of cooled wine and later died. Because of this dramatic occurrence, tennis was first recorded (Gillmeister, Heiner). Following the death of Louis X, King Charles V of France was a noted enthusiast of the game, setting up a court in his Louvre Palace (J. Perris)
What is more, in order to write a good academic piece of writing we should make use of linking devices, linking words or expressions. They are vital for giving coherence to our text. Thus, a list of the most important and common linking devices has been found to help our brain make a good structure of our essay, report or whatever type of text. Here it is:
Coming to the end, I will tell you all that this week I've been practising a lot of exercises from the Workbook. This is a good way, as they are not activities that we usually do in class, so there I can find more alternatives and I don't do again the same activities. I think it is very advisable for everyone in my classroom to take the workbook, although it is not compulsory, and start doing its exercises in order to face the exam in a proper way. Nevertheless, everyone is free! I will continue doing so until the exam takes place. I hope I do it well! Luck for you all too!
