Week 8: NARRATIVE ESSAY WRITING

This week has been funny, as holidays were close and we all were looking forward to finishing our homework. We had to write a narrative essay and the truth is that I have truly learnt what the foundations of a narrative essay are. Firstly, I have to thank to the teachers, they were who uploaded a presentation very well explained, telling us everything about narrative essays. Nevertheless, I have found these two web pages which also explain the process of a narrative essay in a simple, clear and effective way. Here they are:

The most important characteristics to take into account when writing a narrative essay are these ones:

  • Opening hook to get your audience interested or curious
  • Sharply drawn characters
  • Coherent plot (that is to say, chain of events with an interesting cause-and-effect dynamic and with a chronological order)
  • Detailed description of people, events, and settings
  • Must have dialogues (if they are relatively long, not in short ones)
  • It must have tension moments
  • It must have a climax
The difference between a discursive essay and a narrative essay is that, discursive essays, basically, are based on ivestigating and idea, expounding it and finally argumenting it. A narrative essay tells some story from a specific point of view, in a chronological order and with a cause-effect development.

As we have been able to enjoy a long week of holidays, I have spent some time in street markets, looking for old books or second-han and cheap books in English to read throughout my holidays. I bought this week The Hunger Games and Eragon. I hope I will be able to read them at least this summer!  really enjoy buying cheap items like these, they were like 50 cent. each and tehy are true relics!! Furthermore, I think this is a really good way of improving my English day by day, reading books that you find interesting.
