Week 14: INTELLIGENCE

In regard to reporting results in formal contexts using adverbial clauses, I have found this web site were some research has been carried out. Later, it has been divided into sections and this web make it easier in order to get each sections individually and to be able to read only what you are interested in. Let's see this:

http://www.phrasebank.manchester.ac.uk/reporting-results/

That is the link. If we click it we can see the different parts composing the possible academic text. Let's click for instance in the "highlighting surprising results" subdividision.

The suggestions are the following:

Interestingly, the X was observed to …
This result is somewhat counterintuitive.
Interestingly, this correlation is related to …
The more surprising correlation is with the …
Surprisingly, only a minority of respondents …
The most surprising aspect of the data is in the …
The correlation between X and Y is interesting because …
The most striking result to emerge from the data is that …
Interestingly, there were also differences in the ratios of …
The single most striking observation to emerge from the data comparison was …

As is possible to appreciate many adverbs are appearing in these phrases to show and reveal reporting results.

On the other hand, as we all know summer is approaching quite quickly and this week I was exhausted of being all the afternoon long sitting on my desk studying and working on the different exams and works. Therefore, I decided to do some physical exercise. Then, I went to youtube, one of my most used web pages on the Internet and I looked up for some video about exercises to improve my physical appearance or shape. Then, the best videos to do so were in English. Thence, it was my way of improving my English this week, since I spent more or less an hour everyday doing exercise with a guy speaking in Enlgish while giving me instructions. It was kind of funny, I think I will do it again and will be practising this kind of "english sport" for some time!
